The Purpose of Prison: What is Freedom?
Imagine you are Samuel Randolph. You know, without a doubt, that you are innocent. You've been accused of a crime you didn’t commit, yet despite your relentless cries, your shouts for justice, no one listens. No one believes you. The system that is supposed to protect the innocent instead condemns you to a life behind bars awaiting a death date, surrounded by darkness and isolation. Your freedom is stripped away, and with it, your dignity. You stand, resolute in your truth, but a nagging question lingers: If you know you're innocent, what else is there to prove?
This is the dilemma faced by countless individuals who find themselves wrongfully convicted, and imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit. How does one maintain one’s sense of self when one's truth is ignored? Is there no such thing as innocence in a world that only acknowledges degrees of guilt?
